I apologize for the weird question but, could you help me remember the name of an arcade game so I can get the rom? I remember that the characters in the game were: a boy, a girl, a fat boy, a thin boy and an old man, and the weapon they mainly used was a hammer (mallet)
Thanks in advance, it's game I played when I was a kid and I'm longing to play it again.
Great forum!

G'day :hello:

(Moved to Searching for?)

I'll have a quick stab at this one. Is it Hammerin' Harry?

Hi Hierophant! Wow that was a quick reply! I'm afraid Hammerin' Harry is not the game I'm looking for, but thanks so much for the help! :ty:

No worries, ternitamas. Do you recall any other details of that game? I'm assuming it's some kinda side-scrolling platformer, yes?

Well, my memory fails me but, yes it was kinda side-scrolling and you could make the character remain in air by hammering repeatedly. Also the enemies were not "humans" but more like objects, like a "lamp shades" and stuff. I think you could get use of the rest of the characters by advancing stages, and the "old man" was a very slow character but used his walking staff as a weapon which was really powerful. Each character kinda had a special ability . Well that's all. I'll go on racking my brains out!

Dude, this is a tough one. Could you check out this game?

Don Doko Don, Taito Japan, 1989

Although it doesn't entirely match up with your description, it's one of the few games I've found so far where the characters use mallets.

If Hiero can't get it, then there is no hope. :SM:

LOL, I haven't quit just yet!
:sparta:

I found another game with hammer dudes called The Berlin Wall, although apart from the hammers in their hands that game bears no resemblance to the description of the game we're looking for.

Hi there! I feel bad for all the trouble I put you through. I checked on both games you found but none is the one I used to play.
I've tried checking on arcade names listings to see if any rings a bell and then check them with youtube but haven't found it so far. Any searching tips you think I could use are welcome. Anyways, I'll try not to give up on my "quest". :link: Thanks so much dude for all the hard work!

Hey, mate, don't feel bad, it's all part of the action! :hello:

Even if I find a game that bears only a slight resemblance to your description, Ill post it up anyway just in case. Process of elimination, you know.

The best MAME roms search tool is MAWS. Not only is it a continually updated MAME roms database, but it allows searching by various categories. Say if you go to 'category' and choose 'Fighter / 2.5D' from the drop down list as your only search parameter, MAWS will make a list of all it's entries in that genre. Then it's easy to pick out the original/parent roms from all their clones; the clones having a darker background for their list entry. That way you can search through a whole genre while saving time by only checking the original roms.

Have a play around with MAWS. Another fun thing with that is you'll probably find a bunch of other interesting games while you're searching for that one lost game. I know I have.
