DKII Jumpman Returns rom

I can't get the rom for DKII Jumpman returns to work in any MAME I've tried. I have the dkongx rom and tried it in 4 versions of MAME (from .201 to .150) and even misfit mame. I usually see an error message : missing a rom or chd file

any ideas why this won't load? Crazy thing is I've tried it on versions of MAME other people are supposedly running theirs on

Make sure you have the parent ROM as well, dkong.zip.
